Meet Erik Clevering
Erik Clevering is an immigrant from the Netherlands with expertise in real estate, marketing and sales. In 2015 Erik decided to give up his corporate career as a sales manager at Samsung Mobile and follow his passion for the outdoors.
He loves exploring the outdoors with his partner, hanging out with his cats and friends and cooking (ask him if he has time to make you some delicious Dutch pancakes one day!).
Since 2016, Erik's heart has also grown with a passion for Mount Cain Alpine Resort, a small community-driven mountain resort that supports work opportunities on the northern part of Vancouver Island. He was the snow school manager for the last two seasons and is still involved with the organization.
People describe Erik as friendly, passionate, thoughtful, and organized, with an eye for detail.
The personal story
Hi, I'm Erik, just a regular guy who grew up in the Netherlands and had never imagined growing old in Canada. I like the small things in life such as sipping on a good coffee in the morning, enjoying the beautiful views of nature, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, laughing with friends and spending time with my partner.
During my degree in Sports, Management and Business, at the University of Applied Science of Amsterdam, I had the opportunity to do an internship in Canada. During my internship, I found the love of my life, Morgan. After living for two years in Europe, we were missing the "real" Canadian outdoors. On June 2nd, 2015, Morgan, Jack (our cat) and I were standing at the Amsterdam airport with one-way fares to Vancouver.
After spending a little more than a year in North Vancouver, we knew we were ready to move back to where it all started: the Comox Valley. After renting a small cabin in Merville, we purchased our house in Seal Bay in 2017. Abel O'Brennan helped us in the entire process of purchasing and I was impressed with what he did for us. From that day on, I dropped everything, and I went in my books to become a real estate agent: a profession where you guide people through one of the most important purchases of their lives; a profession where you need to apply skills such as connecting, interacting, negotiating and marketing. All of these skills are extremely important, and they are the things that I am passionate about! (I have to confess, I am a little bit of a nerd and enjoy reading heaps of books, doing research, and listening to podcasts etc.)
Although it was a risky step to go into an industry that is organized differently back in The Netherlands, it is one of the best steps that I have made in my life! I am extremely proud of the fact that I can help people enjoy the process of one of their most stressful purchases or investments in life.
Hopefully, we can have the chance to go for a coffee or an outdoor adventure one day! Because at the end of the day, that is why we choose to live on Vancouver Island! Work hard, but play harder!
All the best,
